UniKL was proud to welcome the first visit by Y.B. Dato' Seri Hj. Mohd Shafie Hj. Apdal, Minister of Rural and Regional Development to UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) on July 17, 2009. This official working visit was in conjunction with UniKL ceremonial briefing to Y.B. Minister and to officially close the orientation week (Minggu Sillaturrahim) of the new July 2009 intake students which had began on July 12, 2009.

Y.Bhg. Dato' Haji Mohamad Rais Haji Zainuddin, Chairman, UniKL Board of Dirctors, Y. Bhg. Dato' Zolkipli Abdul, Chairman, University Council, Y.Bhg. Dato' Ir. Muhammad Bushro Mat Johor, Chairman, UniKL MIAT Board of Directors.
In his speech, Y.B. Minister applauded the enthusiasm showed by the new UniKL students and congratulated them for being selected to pursue higher academic excellence in UniKL MIAT. He also added that, students should be proud to have the opportunity to study in UniKL MIAT as it is the only technical university in Malaysia that offers unique programmes in Aircraft Engineering and Maintenance. During the press conference, Y.B. Minister acknowledged the importance of UniKL MAT in producing future aircraft engineers and reaffirmed the government's undivided support to give specific attention to UniKL.
Also present at the closing ceremony were, Senator Tan Sri Jins Samsuddin, UniKL President/CEO, Prof. Dato' Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, Prof. Ahmad Zahir Hj. Mokhtar, Dean, UniKL MIAT, and other UniKL management members.
