Y.B. Datuk Dr. Adham Baba, Chairman of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) delivered a keynote address and graced the Closing Ceremony of Persidangan Guru Cemerlang Negeri Johor 2011 on May 26, 2011 in Desaru Damai Beach Resort, Johor.
Addressing 150 excellent teachers from all over Johor, Y.B. Datuk Dr Adham highlighted that "higher education qualification to support knowledge development and innovation, high competency in technical and professional fields as well as high productivity are amongst the main criteria of human capital and work force in developed countries". He added that "an excellent teacher will develop excellent students in ensuring that the government is able to produce more high income graduates. Hence, it is imperative that we produce more technologist or practical engineers. This is where Universiti Kuala Lumpur has taken the lead to produce more graduates who are technologically competent in contributing to the government's aspiration of transforming Malaysia into a high income, inclusive and sustainable nation". He also urged all teachers to inculcate Passion, Persistence, Practice and Pattern (4P's) that will result to excellent performance.
Held from May 24 to 26, 2011, the convention is an annual event with the objectives to increase the level of professionalism in the teaching profession, to establish a strong networking for knowledge sharing on innovative teaching and learning and to establish critical thinking among teachers. This year, it was organised by Majlis Guru Cemerlang Negeri Johor and Majlis Guru Cemerlang Daerah Kota Tinggi supported by Johor Education Department, Johor Inspectorate and Quality Assurance Council and Kota Tinggi District Education Office.
Also present at the Closing Ceremony were Puan Norliza Rahman, Yang DiPertua Majlis Guru Cemerlang, Tuan Haji Mohd Zakaria Yusof, Head of Johor Inspectorate and Quality Assurance Council and Encik Md Buang Saibani, Kota Tinggi Education District Officer.
