News : Parabolic Flight of UniKL: Development of Space Underwear under Microgravity Condition

The Parabolic Flight Team of Universiti Kuala Lumpur had actuated several Parabolic Flights over the airspace of Nagoya, Japan from December 22, 2012 till early January 2013 using a modified jet of the Japanese Space Agency.

Heading the team was Test Pilot Captain Dr. Mohd Harridon Mohamed Suffian who was aided by students; Mr. Muhammad Syafiq Abdullah and Mr. Ahmad Marzuqi Marjohan as Mechanical Engineers of the Project. Joining the team was Mr. Helmy Hashim from ANGKASA as the Parabolic Flight Consultant who is also an expert in microgravity experiments.

The team actuated several hyper and microgravity experiments during the flights. The experiments aimed to collect data on the rate of transfer of human perspiration from human pelvic skin to space underwear. The findings would aid scientists and engineers in the development of a more efficient space underwear for astronauts.

"We are happy with the data that we had collected and the instruments worked well during the flights", stated Mr. Syafiq Abdullah.

"We had worked till the last minute to ensure all the samples are fitted well into our experiment box", added Mr. Marzuqi Marjohan. "During the pre-flight checks, we found minor discrepancies but the team was able to fix them", explained Mr. Helmy Hashim.

"There were turbulences during the flights but we managed to achieve our objectives. Team work is always the key to success. The team would like to thank all staff of Universiti Kuala Lumpur who had supported the team. The team would also like to place on record our highest appreciation to ANGKASA and Japanese Space Agency for the support and guidance given to the team", said Captain Dr. Mohd Harridon.
