News : Application of Islamic Knowledge in the Medical Profession

More than 400 staff and students of University Kuala Lumpur attended a talk on ‘The Application of Islamic Knowledge in Medical Profession' by an Islamic Scholar, Shaykh Dr Al Muhaddith Syed Muhammad Bin Yahya Al Ninowy. The talk held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, was organised by the Perak State Government and held on Friday, 22 May 2015 in conjunction with the coronation of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Azlan Shah as the 35th Sultan of Perak.
Born and raised in Syria, Syed Muhammad al-Ninowy is the direct descendant of the family of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Syed Muhammad is an imam and Khateeb at Masjid Al-Madina in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., where he delivers Friday Sermons and gives a weekly discourse on Hadith and Tawheed. He has participated in many national and international conferences on Islam, world peace and welfare of humanity.
He holds a Doctor of Medicine Degree and a Bachelor Degree in Microbiology from USA and has given lectures in Anatomy and Psychology at the University of Georgia.
In his talk, Dr Syed Muhammad said every medical student should have the right intentions in becoming a doctor. Monetary reasons are good, but the noblest intention is for the sake of Allah and for helping mankind. Doctors must have a sense of devotion and service in medical practice and this must be carried out without prejudice.

It is Sunnah to pray for your patients regardless of their faith, race or creed. This Sunnah is one of the characteristics or akhlaq of Nabi Muhammad S.A.W and should be followed by those who claim to be his followers. Amanah or trust in medical practice is 100% and nothing less. This means a doctor should and must give his best effort when treating his or her patients.
The two hour talk ended with a question and answer session which resulted in some lively exchange of ideas between the speaker and the audience.
Also present at the function were En Hisshamuddin Omar, CEO & Head of Campus; Prof Dr. Osman Ali, Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof Dr. Mohd Syafiq B Abdullah, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Dr.  Normah Sidek, Chairwoman of Medina Institute of Malaysia.
