A total of 430 new students of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) for the July 2008 Intake had the greatest moment of their Orientation Week when they had the opportunity to meet Y.B. Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development in person. This was made possible when Y.B. Dato' Saifuddin graced the Oath Recitation and Orientation Week Closing Ceremony for the new students on July 9, 2008 in the Multipurpose Hall of UniKL MIAT.
Prof. Dato' Dr. Abdul Hakim Juri, President / CEO of Universiti Kuala Lumpur in his welcoming speech, expressed the university's highest gratitude to Y. B. Dato' Saifuddin for making his time out of his hectic schedule to be with the new students. This is not only the first visit of Y. B. Dato' Saifuddin to UniKL MIAT, but also his first ever presence in the Orientation Week organised by Universiti Kuala Lumpur. Dato' Hakim added that for the July Intake this year, UniKL MIAT received about 3,000 applications. Apart from local students, the July 2008 Intake also admitted 14 international students coming from Sudan, Yemen, Oman, Maldives, Pakistan and Thailand. With the new intake, UniKL MIAT now has a total of 1,685 students pursuing courses at the Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor's Degree.
On the other hand, in his closing speech, Y.B. Dato' Saifuddin welcomed the new students to be part of UniKL MIAT campus community and stressed that the next few years spent as a student is very crucial as these years will set the foundation of the students' future. The Deputy Minister highlighted, "In the borderless era where knowledge is power, students and the younger generation must be able to distinguish extensively information which is true and useful or otherwise". Y.B. Dato' Saifuddin added that believing in false information may influence one's perception that leads to negative reaction and wrong decision made towards certain issues.
Overall, UniKL admitted a total of 3,500 new students for its July Intake 2008 in all its campuses located throughout Peninsular Malaysia. The Orientation Week started on July 6 and lasted for 3 days after which the new students are to register for their courses to be taken in their first trimester.
