News : Volunteerism Spirit Flying High

170 officers and students from 17 higher education institutions nationwide participated in Seminar Kebangsaan Kor Siswa Siswi Pertahanan Awam (SISPA ke 2 2013 from December 20 – 22, 2013 hosted by UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) in Sepang, Selangor. 

With the spirit of volunteerism flying high, all participants, well clad in their official JPAM uniform, followed though series of paper presentations by senior officials from Malaysia Civil Defence Department, academicians and experts on issues related to governance, policies and regulations related to civil defence. 

Addressing all present during the Opening Ceremony, UniKL President / CEO, Prof. Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, remarked, "UniKL highly emphasized on students development and character building, with the aim to produced graduates with leadership and entrepreneurial qualities, equipped with knowledge and highly skilled. Hosting the seminar is in line with the aim of UniKL to build students who are balanced in the aspects of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual". He added that involvement in civil defence and humanitarian effort will allow the students to be appreciative, become a better human and a noble citizen.  

The seminar was officiated by Director General, Malaysia Civil Defense Department, Y.A.S Pj. (PA) Dato' Sulaiman B. Keling. All participants also feasted on a dinner hosted by UniKL Deputy President (Student Development and Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Dr. Khairanum Subari while Prof. Dato' Hj. Ahmad Zahir Hj. Mokhtar, UniKL Deputy President (International, Industrial and Institutional Linkages) graced the Closing Ceremony. Apart from JPAM, the seminar is supported by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Malaysia.
